Good to meet you all

Hi everyone.

It was good to meet you all on Monday. Well done in the session. Things will get better as you all get to know one another. As well as planning each school session well, (so that you know what you want to achieve and how you are going to do it), you also need to inspire the pupils in each session. This is after all what you would have to do with an adult client too. How you inspire them is up to you, but this is an opportunity for you to think out of the box and take some risks, make sure that everyone looks forward to your sessions together.

Try some of the websites below for information and examples around design in schools. I've noticed that you have identified some of the Architecture for Humanity classroom of the future work already. Best wishes

Ian

I think our blog looks chic and cool. well done Rob!

I've been researching school designs and found some lovely new design work at Loris Malaguzzi Infant School, Reggio Emilia, Italy

A school in Italy that won awards for its' design. It was built and designed around the original concepts and principals of the original Reggio Emilia schoool, which was-

  • The children are the center of creativity.

  • Children best create in complex rich eviroments which support varied sustained and changing relationships between people, the world experience and the many ways of expressing ideas.

  • The enviroment is considered to be the third educator. (the teachers /parents and the children are first and second).

some nice images on the website to draw inspiration from-check it out.

Some examples of Design sheets!

Longford Community School

This is a school in Middlesex, which is an extension and a partial conversion of an old 60's teaching block. The project is sustainable and is an impressive two storey engineered timber building. The shape of the building provides shelter from the sun whilst still allowing sunlight and natural light to illuminate the inside rooms. I love the use of colour and simple strong forms, gives a very strong identity to the school.

CABE school design pdfs

Hi

Here is the reference for a useful practical review of current school design, in relation to the schools project. You can access them through the Resources section on their website. Its called: BSF refurb new-from-old.pdf
This is a residential school designed by Glenn Murcutt in Aurstralia, bouncing light around especially as the sun comes up, it comes into your bedroom, but later in the day it is reflected off the room.
